What’s the Difference Between a Gas Fireplace and a Gas Insert?
The terms “fireplace” and “insert” can be confusing. After all, both are installed into a home! The difference is actually pretty simple:
A gas insert is designed to be installed inside an existing fireplace. A gas fireplace is designed to be installed as a new fireplace within a wall or approved enclosure.
If you're replacing an existing fireplace, an insert may be the right solution. If you're creating a new fireplace as part of a remodel or new construction, a gas fireplace may give you more flexibility.
